TJX Whistleblower Reportedly Fired

Posted by Susan Hall May 23, 2008 12:24:57 PM

The Web site ha.ckers.org reports a whistleblower who regularly wrote posts about security issues at TJX has been fired.

The discount retailer has been through the wringer after a breach of its systems exposed as many as 94 million credit-card accounts to fraud.

The site says the whistleblower, known only as CrYpTiC_MauleR, was tracked down through his ISP, asked to write out his solutions to the problems, then fired.

Asking for others' opinions, ZDNet blogger Larry Dignan sides with the company.

I sympathize with this guy.  His heart was in the right place, he just didn't know how to go about reporting the issue successfully.  As an IT whistleblower I understand completely.  In response to this I wrote an article on how to blow the whistle regarding data security problems with the best chance of success.  You can see it at http://whistlersear.wordpress.com/data-security-whistleblowing-101-for-it-professionals/
