Survey Shows Insiders Believe Energy Sector Most at Risk

Posted by Kara Reeder Nov 12, 2008 10:10:42 AM

A survey sponsored by Secure Computing shows that critical infrastructure insiders believe industries like water, utilities, oil and gas, telecommunications and transportation are ill-prepared for cyberattacks. However, the energy sector was deemed the most vulnerable, according to PCWorld.

As CNET News reports, there are several reasons for the increased vulnerability in this industry, including an increase in the number of access points, use of more IP-based networks and integration between corporate and operational networks.

More than half of respondents said major exploits of critical infrastructure had already begun, while another 14 percent expected a major attack within the next 12 months.
