Spam Levels at Highest in Over a Year, Says MessageLabs

According to a report from MessageLabs, spam levels account for 85 percent of all e-mail, the highest level for more than a year.

 

vnunet.com reports that the jump may be related to a sharp rise in the use of image spam. MessageLabs says spammers use the images to evade spam filters.

 

Spam levels declined late last year due to the shutdown of hosting firm McColo, but have been steadily recovering this year.

 

Spammers are still trying to capitalize on current news stories, with the most recent being the swine flu outbreak.
