Australian researcher Gordon Maddern has discovered a serious bug in Skype for Mac software that would allow hackers to build a self-copying worm program, according to PCWorld.com. Says Maddern:
The long and the short of it is that an attacker needs only to send a victim a message and they can gain remote control of the victims Mac ... It is extremely wormable and dangerous.
Exploiting the bug would allow a hacker to gain control of a Mac by simply sending a malicious instant message, reports ITProPortal. Skype issued a manual patch last month, but did not publicize it, notes PC Pro. The company plans to release another update early next week. Windows and Linux clients are not vulnerable.
