Pennsylvania, New Jersey E-Voting Woes

Posted by Susan Hall Mar 19, 2008 10:23:50 AM

Pennsylvania's online voter registration site has been disabled after it was found to be exposing voter data, reports Computerworld.

The site left registration forms open to anyone on the Internet, exposing information such as the voter's name, date of birth, driver's license number and political party affiliation. Some forms also exposed the last four digits of the voter's Social Security number.

Meanwhile, News.com blogger Declan McCullagh reports Princeton University professors received a letter from e-voting machine manufacturer Sequoia Voting Systems threatening to sue them and New Jersey's Union County if they perform and publish unauthorized analysis of Sequoia's voting machines. He maintains the company should hire the Princeton computer scientists to root out any bugs in the voting system.
