New Worm Found in Skype Chat

Susan Hall

VoIP provider Skype is warning its Windows-based users of a new worm Monday that spreads by sending users a chat message that's "cleverly written" and appears to be from someone on their contact list. It asks them to click a link, reports Digital Trends, and appears to contain a link to a JPEG image. The link actually points to an executable file that, if clicked, infects the user's computer with the w32/Ramex.A worm.

Computerworld also reports Symantec is calling the same worm Pykspa.d.

According to CBC.ca, security vendors F-Secure and Kaspersky Lab already have updated their products to detect and remove it.
