Montego's HyperSwitch Monitors Virtual Traffic

Posted by Kara Reeder Mar 27, 2008 11:12:58 AM

Virtualization is the hot technology, but it presents some security challenges, as IT Business Edge blogger Carl Weinschenk wrote last week. A startup called Montego Networks is hoping to tackle virtualization security with its new product, HyperSwitch, reports InfoWorld.

Created with VMware's server virtualization products, HyperSwitch acts like a firewall regulating traffic between virtual machines. The product is due out April 15 and will run you $495 per physical server per year.

In an interview with InfoWorld blogger David Marshall, Montego Networks co-founder John Peterson says he and fellow co-founder Bob Darabant left Reflex Security to start Montego to address security within the virtual environment and create a "virtual security switch." Peterson says HyperSwitch supports VMware, Citrix, Virtual Iron and other XEN-based environments, and will eventually support Microsoft.

Montego's only competition seems to be Altor Networks, which will be offering a virtual network firewall this summer, reports Network World.
