Microsoft Warns of ActiveX Vulnerability

Kara Reeder

CNET News reports that Microsoft is warning of a vulnerability in its Video ActiveX Control that could let an attacker take control of a PC if the user visits a malicious Web site. The bug affects Internet Explorer versions 6 and 7 on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, but not IE 8, according to Computerworld.

Microsoft is working on a patch, but in the meantime a workaround is provided in the security advisory.

There is still no patch for the DirectX vulnerability that Microsoft warned about in May.
