McAfee's third annual State of the Mal Web report finds that more than 5 percent of Web sites could cause security risks, reports V3.co.uk.
The report not only looked at 27 million Web sites, but also 104 top-level domains. The world's most popular domain, ".com," jumped from ninth to second most dangerous. Cameroon's ".cm" domain took the top spot as the most dangerous. Mike Gallagher, chief technology officer for McAfee Labs, explains:
Cyber criminals target regions where registering sites is cheap and convenient, and poses the least risk of being caught.
Another reason the ".cm" domain is popular among cyber criminals is that unsuspecting users often mistype ".com."
