Malware Writers Take Advantage of Google Trends

Posted by Kara Reeder Feb 27, 2009 1:19:22 PM

McAfee is warning that malware distributors are taking advantage of Google Trends to get top billing for their pages.

According to vnunet.com, malware writers are using the service to find the most popular search topics, then loading up pages with keywords and text so that they will show up on result pages for those terms. McAfee senior threat researcher Craig Schmugar says writers are even pulling content off of already top-ranked pages.

You've heard it before: Exercise caution when clicking on search results and avoid links to unknown or suspicious domains.
