Los Alamos Security Still Found Lacking

Posted by Susan Hall Sep 26, 2008 10:52:22 AM

After a series of highly embarrassing snafus, the Los Alamos National Laboratory still doesn't have a handle on security, according to a recent report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

Though cyber protection at the nuclear testing lab has improved, weaknesses remain on its unclassified network, reports Network World. That network contains unclassified nuclear information as well as employee data.

Among the problems, according to the report, were that security improvements were still in the early stages and there was no evidence that the lab had improved physical security of the premises.

Though the report included several suggestions for improvement, 41 of its recommendations were not made public.
