iPhone Hit by Second Worm Attack

Another worm attack has hit the iPhone. This is the second one this week.

SC Magazine reports that this new worm does not make any noticeable changes to the user's device. Classified as iPhone/Privacy.A by Intego, it takes advantage of the same vulnerability in the iPhone as the ikee worm, targeting owners of jailbroken iPhones who have not changed their root password. Intego spokesperson Peter James explains how the tool works:

Unlike the ikee worm, which signals its presence by changing the iPhone's wallpaper, this hacker tool gives no indication that it has invaded an iPhone. Hackers using this tool will install it on a computer -- Mac, PC, Unix or Linux -- then let it work. It scans the network accessible to it, and when it finds a jailbroken iPhone, breaks into it, then steals data and records it.

Jailbroken iPhone users should note that "the default password genie is well out of the bottle now," says James.

As it turns out, this worm is much more serious than the "Ikee" worm. Hackers are using the worm to build a botnet that steals data, including online banking credentials.
