Illinois Back-up Tapes Lost

Posted by Kara Reeder Jul 24, 2008 9:16:15 AM

Back-up tapes containing the Social Security, bank account and driver's license numbers of the residents of the Village of Tinley Park in Illinois have been lost, reports the SouthtownStar.

The tapes, which contain the personal information of about 19,000 residents, went missing during the week of June 23 during a weekly data transfer. Village manager Scott Niehaus does not suspect foul play. Niehaus says the incident was merely an accident and believes it is unlikely the information will be misused.
