ICANN, IANA Get Pwnd

Kara Reeder

A Turkish hacker group known as "NetDevilz" was able to temporarily redirect visitors to the sites for Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to an illegitimate site, reports Computerworld.

Researchers at zone-h.org were able to get a screen capture of the defacement, which read:

You think that you control the domains but you don't! Everybody knows wrong. We control the domains including ICANN! Don't you believe us?

It's probably not coincidental that the hack comes just after ICANN announced a domain name shake up, which would allow companies and groups to add any suffix they want when registering for a domain name.
