House Leaders Want Web Site Defacement Investigated

Kara Reeder

As we reported on our Network Security Edge site, dozens of Congressional Web sites were defaced by a group known as the Red Eye Crew. Now lawmakers want answers.

According to Computerworld, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and U.S. Rep. John Boehner have asked the U.S. House of Representatives' Chief Administration Officer to immediately assess how hackers were able to pull it off. Fingers seem to be pointing at a vendor that offers hosting and support services:

While many Members have expressed satisfaction with the vendor in question, this is the second time in a year websites hosted and supported by this vendor have been compromised.

Pelosi and Boehner did not identify the vendor, but an Associated Press article names GovTrends.
