Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has notified more than 1,000 patients that their personal information may have been used in attempts to defraud insurance companies, reports The Los Angeles Times.

James Allen Wilson, 44, was arrested Nov. 6 and has pleaded not guilty to identity theft, insurance fraud, grand theft and other charges. He is in jail on $895,000 bail.

The patients' information was found in a search of Wilson's home. Wilson, a former billing department employee, had legitimate access to the information as part of his job, but was not authorized to take the information home.

Investigators say Wilson netted at least $69,000 from insurance companies using stolen information.
