Hacker McKinnon Loses Last Extradition Appeal

Posted by Kara Reeder Jul 31, 2009 9:28:48 AM

British hacker Gary McKinnon has lost his three battles to avoid extradition to the U.S., reports Reuters.

McKinnon is accused of hacking 97 U.S. military computer systems in 2001 and 2002. He maintains he was just looking for information on aliens.

In his final plea against extradition, McKinnon, who has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, claimed that being extradited would worsen his mental health. But the judges didn't buy it. According to PCWorld, McKinnon's attorney plans to appeal.

McKinnon faces up to 70 years in prison if convicted in the U.S.
