Feds Search Apartment of Palin E-mail Hack Suspect

Posted by Ainsley Jones Sep 22, 2008 9:12:26 AM

Early Sunday morning, federal investigators served a search warrant at the Knoxville, Tenn., apartment of a suspect in the hacking of Sarah Palin's Yahoo account.

The raid reportedly disrupted the party of suspect and 20-year-old college student David Kernell and his three roommates. Kernell is the son of Tennessee state representative Mike Kernell. The Register reports that no charges have been filed to date, although Kernell's roommates where issued subpoenas to appear in a Chattanooga, Tenn., court this week.

Kernell has been linked to the "rubico" who posted a bulletin board message claiming the hack by virtue of the e-mail address rubico10@yahoo.com. Gabriel Ramuglia, webmaster of Ctunnel, confirmed the IP address used by the person who hacked into Palin's account, but said he wasn't able to link Kernell to the IP address, reports Computerworld.
