FBI Busts Credit Card Fraud Forum

Posted by Kara Reeder Oct 17, 2008 11:04:07 AM

The FBI has shut down a highly sophisticated Web site where fraudsters would trade stolen credit card data and get information on latest online scams, reports Reuters.

The Dark Market was an invitation-only forum where criminals could buy and sell stolen financial information and learn how to commit online fraud. At its height, the forum had as many as 2,500 regular members.

So far, nearly 60 people across the globe have been arrested as a result of the two-year investigation, according to vnunet.com. The FBI estimates it protected bank accounts and credit lines worth $70 million thanks to the infiltration by an FBI agent using the pseudonym Master Splyntr.
