DNS Attack Writer Gets Pwnd

Posted by Kara Reeder Jul 30, 2008 10:13:38 AM

The creator of the Metasploit hacking toolkit has just learned a thing or two about karma. H.D. Moore's company BreakingPoint was a victim of a cache poisoning attack on a DNS server on AT&T's network, reports InfoWorld.

The attack redirected users trying to access Google.com to a fake Google page created by a scammer. No BreakingPoint computers were compromised, and Moore maintained a pretty good attitude about it, say "It's funny."

Last week, we reported that the DNS flaw that Dan Kaminsky discovered was being folded into the Metasploit hacker tool, thereby "weaponizing" the flaw.

There does seem to be something to the old adage, "What goes around, comes around."

Hi Kara, I work at BreakingPoint and just wanted to point you to the correction that IDG put up a minute ago about that story:

http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/149136/dns_attack_writer_a_victim_of_his_own_creation.html?tk=rl_noinform

I actually don't think InfoWorld put the correction up on their site yet.  HD also put up his thoughts on his own blog if anyone is interested (and with more details about the exploit).

I've included my email if you have any questions, thanks.
