DA's Office Put Passwords in Court Record

Posted by Susan Hall Jul 28, 2008 11:32:47 AM

Just as the city of San Francisco has access back to its FiberWAN network, along comes another whoopsie.

Network administrator Terry Childs gave up codes to the system in a jail house visit with Mayor Gavin Newsom, which allowed the city to get back to business using the system. But InfoWorld reports that the District Attorney's Office, in a court document, revealed about 150 usernames and passwords used by various departments to connect to the network.

Childs faces four charges of computer tampering. The city's IT department believes the passwords are sensitive information, but not enough to allow an outsider into the network without a second level of codes.
