The recently released report by the Obama administration that details the findings of a 60-day review of national cyber security policy and practice offers many recommendations for securing the nation's infrastructure. One such recommendation involves establishing better identity management.

According to SecureIDNews, the report recommends that the federal government work with the private sector to develop an online identity management system that uses privacy-enhancing technologies.

"We cannot improve cybersecurity without improving authentication, and identity management is not just about authenticating people ... Authentication mechanisms also can help ensure that online transactions only involve trustworthy data, hardware, and software for networks and devices."
