Cyber Attacks Faster, IT Overwhelmed, Says Report

Posted by Kara Reeder Apr 29, 2009 11:16:51 AM

According to a study by Qualys, IT security is being overwhelmed by the speed at which exploits are released.

ComputerWeekly reports that 80 percent of exploits are ready to go less than 10 days after the vulnerability's public release, while it takes most companies about 30 days to patch or fix vulnerabilities.

Highly regulated sectors such as finance seem to be better at patching, taking around 21 days to fix vulnerabilities. Unregulated sectors such as manufacturing take the most time, at 51 days, according to the report.
