Could New ICANN Rules Open Door for Phishers?

The Information Systems Audit and Control Association is warning that the recent decision by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers to allow non-Latin characters in URL addresses could open the door for new phishing attacks.

 

ISACA believes that malware writers could capitalize on the similarities between characters in different languages, reports V3.co.uk. Peter Wood, a member of the ISACA conference committee, says:

Now more than ever, people should type in the address of the Web site they wish to visit in their browser or go directly to the IP address.
