Computer System Breached at Antioch University

Posted by Susan Hall Mar 31, 2008 10:20:44 AM

A computer system at Antioch University containing personal information on about 70,000 people was breached three times last year, according to an Associated Press story in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

The intrusions at the Yellow Springs, Ohio, campus took place June 9, June 10 and Oct. 11. The university said there is no evidence any of the information had been used. That information includes names, Social Security numbers, academic records and payroll documents for current and former students, applicants and employees going back to 1996.

The server involved was taken offline and the university also is trying to determine whether there are other vulnerabilities in its computer systems.

The Ohio school is scheduled to close June 30 due to low enrollment, but a group of alumni and former trustees has been scrambling to work out a deal to buy it. On Friday, school officials rejected the group's offer to pay $12.2 million over five years, opting instead to search for a buyer who can pay in full up front, according to an AP story in The Boston Globe.
