BackTrack 3.0: Even More Hacking Tools

Posted by Kara Reeder Jun 27, 2008 9:18:20 AM

BackTrack 3.0, a Linux based distribution focused on penetration testing (a.k.a. ethical hacking), has just been released. InfoWorld blogger Roger Grimes says the new version includes even more hacking tools, fixes many bugs and offers better menus.

According to remote-exploit.org, BackTrack 3.0 has more than 300 different up-to-date tools, including a Cisco auditing tool, SQL scanner and Hydra, a password guesser.

If all this seems scary -- it is. But Grimes says the best way to defend against hackers is to read as much as you can and learn how to legally hack. IT BusinessEdge blogger Carl Weinschenk agrees, saying that "pen testing" is an extremely effective, if not somewhat disconcerting, area.
