Audit Finds Minnesota Retirement System at Risk

Posted by Kara Reeder Jun 25, 2009 9:41:32 AM

Although no hackers have broken into its computer systems, an audit found that the Minnesota State Retirement System lacks adequate controls to protect its systems from external threats, according to TwinCities.com.

Among the problems the audit found were poorly configured and managed firewall and wireless technologies, weak passwords and no comprehensive security management system capable of responding to changing technology risks. The report also found that updates were not promptly installed.

David Bergstrom, MSRS executive director, is not surprised by the review.

"We believe that we've made good progress, especially within the past year, to enhance our security controls. Yet we realize that we have considerable work to do to get to where we would like our IT security environment to be."
