Anonymous Hacker Pleads Guilty in Scientology Attack

Posted by Kara Reeder Oct 20, 2008 11:24:28 AM

Dmitriy Guzner, a member of an underground hacking group called Anonymous, has pleaded guilty to charges of hacking the Church of Scientology's Web site and agreed to pay a $37,500 fine, reports eFluxMedia. Guzner also is facing 10 years in prison for the online attacks.

PCWorld reports that in January, Guzner launched DDoS attacks on the Scientology.org Web site. The attacks were followed by YouTube videos from Anonymous that said its actions were a response to efforts by the Church to suppress a video of Tom Cruise professing his admiration for the religion.

This is not the first time Anonymous has been in the news. vnunet.com says the group also has claimed responsibility for tracking suspected pedophile Chris Forcand and the hacking of vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's e-mail.
