One Voice Coaliton Backs LTE Standard

Posted by Ainsley Jones Nov 6, 2009 9:42:45 AM

A coalition of global telecoms have launched the One Voice initiative with the aim of increasing the use of Long Term Evolution (LTE). Carriers including Alcatel-Lucent, AT&T, Ericsson, Nokia, Nokia Siemens, Orange, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Telefonica, TeliaSonera, Verizon and Vodafone are backing the initiative.

The telecoms have developed a technical profile for LTE voice and SMS services offering an optimal set of existing 3GPP specifications that network vendors, service providers and handset manufacturers will be required to adapt to guarantee an interoperable IMS-based telephony service over LTE radio access, according to Converge! Network Digest.

The coalition is angling to get Motorola and Chinese-based vendors on board for increased leverage, says Rethink Wireless.
