NTT DoCoMo Pondering U.S. Venture

Posted by Ainsley Jones Sep 9, 2009 1:24:51 PM

Japan's NTT DoCoMo is reportedly considering entering the U.S. market. While that's no surprise, the company's rumored method for doing so is, says CNET News. It seems that after the high-profile failures of Disney Mobile, Helio and Virgin Mobile, NTT DoCoMo is contemplating starting a MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) here in the states.

GigaOM's Om Malik sees even the ponderance of such a move to be too little too late for the telco's iMode mobile Internet service. Despite such harsh opinions, InformationWeek's Marin Perez says launching a U.S. MVNO represents little risk despite the long list of failed ventures.
