France Undercuts Germany's Price on iPhone

Posted by Susan Hall Nov 28, 2007 5:38:30 PM

France Telecom's carrier Orange began selling the much-hyped iPhone on Wednesday in an unlocked version without a service plan for $964 (649 euro), reports InformationWeek.

The price undercuts that of Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile unit, which sells its standalone iPhone for $1,483. Orange said 63,000 people had signed up on its Web site to receive information about the smartphone. French law prohibits sales of locked phones.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile faces a court hearing in Germany on Thursday after rivals raised antitrust issues with its iPhone package.
