Updated OpenOffice Released

Susan Hall

Just in time for the voting deadline on whether Microsoft's Open Office XML should become an international standard, an updated version of the rival OpenOffice productivity suite has been released, notes ZDNet UK.

Blogger Neil McAllister at PCWorld.com calls OpenOffice 2.4 mostly an incremental upgrade with minor new features and bug fixes in each of the applications. He doesn't see the competition heating up because of it.

Version 3.0, due in September, he says, will raise the stakes with support for Microsoft Office 2007, making it easier for users to switch.
