Sun Looks for Wider Pool of Coders with JavaFX

Posted by Susan Hall Dec 4, 2008 12:22:18 PM

Sun Microsystems will face off against Adobe and Microsoft with the release Thursday of its JavaFX platform for rich Internet applications, reports vnunet.com.

The release includes compiler and runtime tools, graphics, media, Web services and rich text libraries to aid developers in building applications to run on desktops, in browsers, mobile devices and on televisions.

JavaFX will sit on top of Sun's Swing component set to help less savvy programmers --  designers, content creators and such -- build interactive Web applications, according to InformationWeek.

The platform will compete with Adobe's Flex, Microsoft's Silverlight and open source Ajax.
