Seagate has launched the Momentus XT, the company's fastest 2.5-inch hard disk drive for laptop computers, VentureBeat reports. While the Momentus XT looks like a traditional HDD, the same can't be said of its inside. The hybrid drive combines a 7200 RPM spin speed and 4 GB of flash memory, making it 40 percent faster than traditional notebook drives.
This latest entry from Seagate serves as proof that while SDD continues to gain ground in high-speed environments, HDD is showing no signs of exiting the storage market just yet. IDC expects HDD to provide 300,000 petabytes of storage through 2014.
