Microsoft Offers Pay-As-You-Go Office 2007 Plan

Susan Hall

Microsoft has launched a subscription service for Office 2007 aimed at making the software more accessible for people in emerging markets, Reuters reports.

The pay-as-you go service will be offered initially in South Africa and Romania and will cost $28.54 for a three-month subscription. First-time users will get an extra three months free.

Ars Technica reports the service is aimed at students, home users and small businesses that might not be able to afford to buy the software.

The company is trying to extend its reach into developing countries, but faces competition from free and open source software.
