EMC-owned Iomega has introduced a set of USB 3.0 external solid-state drives that range in capacity from 64GB to 256GB. The Iomega External SSD Flash Drives have a 1.8-inch form factor, feature 256-bit encryption and are about twice as fast as a 7200 RPM SATA drive taking advantage of the same USB 3.0 interface, reports eWEEK.
The drives can also operate at USB 2.0 speeds, making them compatible with PCs that do not have USB 3.0 yet, according to The Register. Bundled software, including Iomega's v.Clone, comes with the drive. Available from early November, suggested retail prices for the drives in the United States are $229 for the 64GB version, $399 for the 128GB model and $749 for the 256GB drive.
