Ainsley Jones

Intel has officially begun shipping its dual-core Atom processor. Designed for the growing mini-notebook market, the Atom 330 has a 1.6-GHz processing core and uses a maximum of 8 watts of power, reports InformationWeek.

Gartner expects the netbook market to reach 5.2 million shipments this year and 8 million the next, while Market Intelligence Centre expects shipments to double in 2009. Samsung, which recently threw its hat into the netbook ring, plans to equip its NC10 with Intel's Atom 330.
