HP, Citrix Team up on Virtualization

Posted by Susan Hall Mar 21, 2008 9:36:14 AM

Hewlett-Packard and Citrix have teamed up to embed Citrix's XenServer hypervisor into HP's ProLiant servers, reports CRN. Ten models in the HP ProLiant server line will ship with the XenServer hypervisor by March 31.

VMware CTO Stephen Herrod recently predicted that within a few years, all servers will come with embedded capability for virtualization, notes InfoWorld. It notes HP, Dell, IBM, Fujitsu and Siemens soon will begin shipping servers with a slimmed-down version of VMware's hypervisor.

It's all a race to "get there" before Microsoft, according to ZDNet blogger Dan Kusnetzky, who notes the competitive advantage of pre-installed software. Though Microsoft released its Server 2008 in late February, its Hyper-V won't come out before August.
