Google Shifting Gears to HTML5

Ainsley Jones

Google has officially announced that it has ended its active development of Google Gears and is shifting its efforts toward bringing Gears capabilities into Web standards like HTML5. The move comes after Chrome was updated to support the HTML5 Database API, says The H.

Google's support of HTML5 has made the Gears platform redundant, according to The Register. Google will continue to support Gears in Firefox and Internet Explorer.
