Google Halts Offline Access for Docs

Ainsley Jones

Google suspended offline access to its productivity suite yesterday. The company announced last month that it would halt offline access to its online document and spreadsheet editors. It's said to be creating a version based on HTML 5 that's not ready yet. Google has not stated when such functionality would be reinstated, according to The Register.

Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet says the move may limit productivity, as she does the majority of her creating and editing of documents offline. Not having offline access also puts workers in danger of losing their work if they lose their Internet connection while working.
