GE and Google Gang Together on Green Initiatives

Posted by Ainsley Jones Sep 18, 2008 11:44:02 AM

Google and General Electrics announced yesterday that they would work together to stump for eco-friendly policies and develop geothermal and plug-in technologies. The goal of the two companies is to make renewable energy more accessible and useful, reports The New York Times.

The companies plan to serve as advocates for the development of a smart electricity grid and for the allocation of additional capacity for renewable energy resources, says this SFGate.com article. Google has been working with several companies, but none with the global standing of GE, which has been working to develop green solutions for some time.

Google and GE have not disclosed specific details for their partnership, but have indicated that they will work to develop technologies that will convert geothermal power to electricity and focus on technology that will help utilities integrate plug-in vehicles into their grids. Greentech Media reports that the two companies will also be looking to partner with more companies and organizations with similar goals.
