First Windows 7 Beta Patch Released

Kara Reeder

According to InfoWorld, the first patch for Windows 7 beta has been released to fix a bug that causes any edited MP3 file to lose some audio.

However, Microsoft failed to fix the Server Message Block protocol vulnerability that affects every version of Windows, including Windows 7. Microsoft says the flaw went unfixed because the bug that is pertinent to Windows 7 is rated as "moderate," and security updates for beta versions of Windows are provided through Windows Update for "critical" issues only. Spokesman Christopher Budd says, "The vulnerability will be addressed in the next public release for Windows 7."
