FCC Launches Spectrum Dashboard Beta

Ainsley Jones

Thus far, the U.S. Federal Communications Commissions' National Broadband Plan has raised more questions than answers. The FCC has released a beta version of its proposed Spectrum Dashboard to provide citizens with a method of learning how spectrum is being used, who owns spectrum licenses and which spectrum is available in their area.

In addition to engaging and educating citizens, the FCC proposal looks to protect them. The plan calls for providing the FCC with a greater role in developing cyber security measures and collaborating with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on security matters.

Our Carl Weinschenk calls the FCC's plan a lightning rod in The Battle for Nationwide Broadband Starts in Earnest. Television broadcasters are gearing up for a possible spectrum battle with the FCC, says FierceBroadbandWireless. At the same time, GE is delighted with the National Broadband Plan and its possible impact on modernizing the electric grid, TMCnet reports.
