Dell, HP to Resell Oracle Operating Systems on x86 Platforms

Ainsley Jones

Oracle has announced that Dell and HP will certify and resell Oracle Solaris, Oracle Enterprise Linux and Oracle VM on their respective x86 platforms, reports Computerworld. Oracle Co-president Charles Phillips said in a statement:

Today's announcement demonstrates Oracle's commitment to openness and will provide Dell and HP customers with new levels of support, and immediate access to deep product expertise, limiting risk in their IT environment.

Paul Miller, vice president of solutions and strategic alliances, enterprise servers, storage and networking at HP, added:

Customers need to instantly adjust to dynamic business demands, but many have hardwired stacks of applications and infrastructure that can't rapidly change.

The news follows Oracle's decision to cease allowing Solaris to be sold on the x64 machines of companies that have their own Unix iron, such as IBM.
