Technical problems with servers took down Comcast's SmartZone e-mail system for several hours on Saturday. The company communicated and kept its customers in the loop via its blog and Twitter account, says PC Magazine.
The outage began at 7:30 a.m. EST and prevented some customers from being able to access their e-mail and address books, but did not hamper their ability to connect to the Internet. While the number of customers inconvenienced is unknown, 14,000 active Twitter followed the Comcastcares page on Saturday, according to PC World. The company was able to get most e-mail flowing again by the afternoon, but some subscribers were still awaiting old e-mail some 12-hours after the initial outage.
