Feds to Get New Security Metrics

Posted by Kara Reeder Oct 5, 2009 11:30:53 AM

Come this November, federal agencies will receive new cyber security performance metrics, according to FederalNewsRadio. A Security Metrics Taskforce will be charged with creating "new metrics for information security performance for federal agencies that are focused on outcomes."

According to a statement by Federal CIO Vivek Kundra, along with Navy CIO Robert Carey and Justice CIO Vance Hitch:

In order to meet the evolving challenges we now face, the Federal Information Security Management Act metrics need to be rationalized to focus on outcomes over compliance. Doing so will enable new and actionable insight into agencies' information and network security postures, possible vulnerabilities and the ability to better protect our federal systems.
