Data Likely to Show Stimulus Responsible for 650,000 Jobs

Posted by Kara Reeder Oct 30, 2009 9:10:36 AM

The Obama Administration is predicting that the stimulus program helped create or save about 650,000 jobs, reports The Wall Street Journal. The reports are expected this afternoon on Recovery.gov.

The reports from tens of thousands of state and local governments, private companies, colleges and community groups cover stimulus spending that occurred through Sept. 30. They will only cover $150 billion of the $339 billion that has been spent, which the administration sees as proof that the $787 billion American Reinvestment and Recovery Act will meet its goal of creating or saving 1 million jobs.

However, the lack of information thus far has drawn critics. Ed DeSeve, senior adviser to the president for Recovery Act Implementation, responds:

Whatever problems the early and partial data had, the full data to be posted on Friday will provide the American people with an accurate, detailed look at the early success of the Recovery Act.
