DARPA Hires Hacker as Program Manager

Kara Reeder

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has hired Peiter Zatko, a respected hacker known as "Mudge," to be a program manager, according to CNET News.

Zatko will get a "good chunk" of the $3.5 billion a year DARPA spends to fund research to help give the U.S. government tools needed to protect against cyber attacks. Zatko says he will focus on cyber security, funding researchers who are most likely to create technologies that can leapfrog what comes out of large corporations. Says Zatko:

I want revolutionary changes. I don't want evolutionary ones.
