Commerce Department Neglecting IT Security Work Force?

Kara Reeder

An audit by the Commerce Department's inspector general found that the department has not taken the basic steps to develop its work force that oversees the security of the department's IT systems, reports FederalComputerWeek.

According to the audit, the department's management has not spent enough attention and resources to train its IT security workers, leaving high-impact systems vulnerable. The IG suggests more professional development and role-based training for IT security employees, as well as formal documentation of officers' duties.

For its part, the department says the audit report overstates the security issue.
