A Call for Universal Standard for Geographic Data

Geographic information systems used here in the United States have become a mess due to a lack of standards and policies to organize and compile all the data into a system that can be used universally, says InformationWeek.


One plan to fix the system would require government funding to create a universal standard that would streamline the data into a format that everyone can use. Also, state and local governments would have to watch over their own systems and provide access to others for collaboration.
